Working with clients
Family work
Family work is work with several members of a family together. Meetings last ninety minutes and take place once a week, and more often when needed, in person in Belgrade or online. The first conversation is a free consultation, at which we assess together who should attend and what the aim is.
Families usually get in touch when one person’s problem has become everyone’s burden: when parents and adult children cannot agree on anything, when illness or death reopens old wounds, when the care of an ageing parent has to be shared, or when something everyone knows has gone unspoken for years.
A family has its own rules, just as a person does: who is allowed to be angry, what is never talked about, who always gives in, who is “the difficult one”. When one member begins to change, the others often, without meaning to, pull them back to their old place. That is why a family does not change by fixing one member, but by seeing the rule together. I take no one’s side; my job is to make sure everyone is heard and that what could not be said before gets said.
